Harper ~ 12 days

I’d like to introduce sweet baby Harper! She was very alert for a 12 day old and stayed incredibly calm throughout her session, watching us carefully and gazing out the window. I had so much fun playing with her and getting to know her parents. Here is a little sneak peek from their session!

Her daddy painted this piece of wall art for her nursery. How sweet is that?

Vintage Couture

Just a little sneak peek from a modeling shoot we did the other day for Vintage Couture! I’ll start with my favorite dress. This one is called “Blushing Paisley” and it was a huge hit this spring. Love, Love, LOVE!!!

This next line is called “Jungle Rose”.

I really love their layered bows!

This next dress was Abbey’s favorite because it was super soft and stretchy! This line is called “Wild Child”.

I love this shot of Little Miss Sassy Pants. She was feelin’ pretty cute in this outfit!

And last, but not least, the “Serenity Blooms” line.

Russell’s Barber Shop

While flipping through a magazine last week, I came across an image of a man getting his hair cut at an old barber shop. I mentioned to my dad how fun it would be to take pictures at a place like that, but I doubted any still existed. Dad said “I get my hair cut at a place just like that!”

I met up with him a few days later to check the place out and it was every bit as nostalgic as I imagined it would be! Except he didn’t have one of those old swirly things out front. He said it was stolen years ago and he never bothered to replace it. The owner of Russell’s Barber shop is an older gentleman named Bill who smiles as he works. He told us the story of how he got started in the business as a young man and how he plans to keep working there until the day he dies. I really admire that.

These boys came all the way from Tulsa to see me the other day! I’ve been photographing them since they were babies and we always have a blast at their shoots!

There is a moment in every session where the kids realize that I don’t necessarily want them to “sit still and smile for the camera”. I want them to be silly! That’s when I get to see their *real* smiles. During this session, that moment happened right about here…

Wow, long time – no post, huh? This is becoming a cycle with me. I get overwhelmed in the fall, and I’m ready for a break, then the holidays hit and I’m still rushing around like crazy. January is busy with birthdays and working on our family yearbook. I spend most of my spare time snuggled up with my munchkins, watching movies and sipping hot chocolate. The weather is too unpredictable to schedule many photo shoots, so the camera collects dust, the blog gets neglected, and I start worrying that I’ve become rusty. And just when I begin to wonder if things will ever pick back up, the days become warmer, I crawl out of hibernation and start getting excited about booking spring sessions!

Speaking of which, I did a shoot last weekend and it was just what I needed to snap me out of the funk I’ve been in. The family was super nice and they reminded very much of the families I used to work with in Tulsa. (I’ve been missing Tulsa terribly lately, but that’s a whole other story) Miss Madelyne was very serious during her shoot, but she was absolutely precious with her round cheeks and big blue eyes. I tried to assure her parents that she really didn’t have to smile to look sweet for her pictures, but then I proceeded to act like a fool anyway, just to see if I could get a giggle or two out of her.

Of course her daddy was successful at getting her to smile. Daddy’s seem to have a knack for that!

Thank you “H” family, for inviting me to your home and letting me capture your precious baby girl! I had a blast. I hope we can do this again soon!

My baby brother called me up the other day asking if I would take pictures of him, his girlfriend, and his guitar. I promised I would and we planned for Saturday evening. On Saturday morning, I plugged my camera battery into the charger so it would be nice and juiced up….can you see where this story is going? On my way out the door, I grabbed the charged battery, put the spare battery in the charger, stuck the charged battery in the camera (or so I thought) and left. I got all the way to OKC, only to find that my battery was completely dead. Ack! I must have gotten the batteries mixed up! I was horrified, but at least it happened to my brother and not a new client whom I was trying to impress. We only had about an hour left of sunlight, so we jumped in the car and raced back to my house. The shoot, which was supposed to take place behind old buildings in OKC, instead took place in the empty lots around my neighborhood. And you know what? I’m glad it did because I adore these pics! I love that the couple seems like they are out in the middle of nowhere, even though there were houses all around us! It was a really fun shoot and something I’ve been wanting to try for a long time….a young couple in love, out in a field of tall grass at sunset. I swear I didn’t forget my camera battery on purpose, but this did work out nicely! I’m doing a newborn shoot out there this afternoon and I can’t wait!!

Madison ~ 3 years

According to the calendar, my baby turned three years old last week, but I don’t want to believe it! I wouldn’t have minded if this sweet girl had stayed two forever!

We celebrated with a Hello Kitty party last weekend.

She picked out the cupcakes herself.

She was decked out in Hello Kitty from head to toe!

“Can you show Mommy how old you are?”

Note: I decided not to edit the scratch off of her little arm because it is proof of how clumsy she is. She acquired that scratch while playing in the empty lot next door the day before these pictures were taken…tripped in her Crocs and landed on a pile of sticks. Ouch!

Happy birthday to our sweet, pudgy, cornball-and-a-half, Maddie Lou Who!

Hadley Marie ~ 1 year

Look who’s one year old! Well, almost! Her birthday isn’t until next week, but we went ahead and got some pics to show off at her party! This shoot was supposed to take place outdoors, but Oklahoma was hit with an unexpected “arctic blast” yesterday afternoon. Dark clouds moved in, the wind picked up, and the temperature dropped dramatically. Instead of rescheduling, we decided to pull the ole’ studio equipment out of the garage and dust it off a bit. Believe it or not, this entire session took place in my laundry room. ha! The nice thing about photographing little people is that they don’t take up a lot of space! Except Miss Hadley is a busy little lady so the hardest part was confining her in the one-square yard of space we were trying to work with. She did great though and put up with five outfit changes! Her mama has awesome taste and we had fun dolling her up.

This baby has the best personality. She is easy going, very social, and silly. We have babysat her a few times and she hardly ever cries. I’ve told her mama she is the easiest baby ever, but she doesn’t need me to tell her that. I think she knows she got a good one!

She devoured this cupcake faster than you can say….”cupcake”.

Happy Birthday Miss Hadley! We love you SOOOOOO much and we can’t wait to come to your birthday bash next weekend!
